Art in enamels: Inspired by The Applied Arts Galleries at The Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge.

In 2013 and 2014 glass artist Mel Howse was the guest of The Applied Arts Department of The Fitzwilliam Museum UK, studying historic collections of ceramics, glass, metal, decorative and functional, from Iraq, Iran, Korea, UK and China.

Her research has become the source of an unusual and original hand made set of artworks and vessels, as she takes her ideas from exhibits in ceramics, glass and metal, and creates an artistic response from contemporary industrial materials using spun steel and industrial vitreous enamel.

The pieces range in size from 65cm to 1.2m in diameter and work on the collection is on-going.
